Nature and magic between mountains of legend
This region is home to a large number of natural and cultural treasures. Its mountains are permeated by the footprints left by the first shepherds thousands of years ago, as well as by the close relationship between its inhabitants and this natural place for centuries. But if something makes this natural environment special and unique, it is the magical atmosphere that flows from its most prominent peak, Anboto, home of the ancient goddess Mari, one of the main myths of Basque culture and identity.
In this proposal we offer you to discover the Urkiola Natural Park off the busiest routes, visiting very special places through ancient paths and little trails that link many of the small natural and cultural treasures that these mountains contain.
This 2-day route includes a night in the heart of the park, a place where we will have the opportunity to connect with the special atmosphere of Urkiola, and with some of the ancient beliefs and customs of a town that has inhabited this place for thousands of years.
The itinerary is designed to appreciate the great landscape diversity of this natural park, entering into suggestive forests, crossing beautiful mountain pastures, and ascending some summmits to contemplate some of the best panoramic in Basque orography.
During the two days, the participants have the help of a local mountain guide who, in addition to managing security, will facilitate the interpretation of the landscape and its environmental elements, as well as to make easier interaction and direct contact with authentic Basque culture.
